A SOURCING JOURNEY / AUSTRALIA

Furniture Sourcing
in China for an
Australian Home

Suzie travelled from Australia to China with ideas for her home. With her preference for natural wood and a light French influence as our starting point, we helped her compare furniture, explore materials and discuss custom details in person.

THE BRIEF

A clear vision for her home.
A closer look at the options.

A home takes shape through individual choices: the colour of the wood, the feel of the upholstery, the texture of a wall tile and the way a rug sits alongside the furniture.

Suzie liked a natural, relaxed feel and wanted to be involved in choosing and styling her home. She brought a clear sense of what she liked, along with questions about materials, colours and custom sizes. Ellie accompanied her through a series of showroom visits, keeping those preferences at the centre of the conversations.

01 / FURNITURE

Start with the pieces.
Find the right direction.

Our first stop focused on indoor furniture, including beds and sofas. With Suzie’s preference for natural wood and a light French influence in mind, we helped her explore styles and discuss the materials and details in front of her.

A later visit to a showroom specialising in wood furniture offered another opportunity to compare pieces with a natural feel, including a black walnut table. Seeing different options in person gave Suzie a practical way to explore the direction she had in mind.

For Arcaya, a useful selection visit starts with the client’s preferences and brings the discussion down to specific pieces.

02 / FABRIC & COLOUR

Look beyond the shape.
Get a feel for the fabric.

Suzie also wanted to explore materials and colours that reflected her own ideas. At the fabric showroom, she looked through samples and discussed customisation options.

Handling the samples brought texture, feel and colour into the conversation. We helped communicate her preferences to showroom staff, taking the discussion from an overall furniture style to the materials that could be used.

03 / FLOORING

Bring a reference.
Compare the wood tones.

The visit also covered wood flooring. Suzie arrived with clear preferences and looked at the available styles and colours against the direction she wanted for her home.

The samples gave everyone a shared point of reference. Our role was to help her explain the details that mattered to her and discuss them with the supplier.

04 / SURFACES & TEXTURE

Take the idea off the screen.
See the surface up close.

At the tile showroom, Suzie focused on wall tiles. She compared the displays with her reference styles, looking closely at patterns and surface effects and touching the samples to feel the differences.

This was another step in exploring how her ideas could translate into actual materials. The conversation could move between the reference image and the sample in front of her.

05 / RUGS & STYLING

Keep the whole room
in view.

Suzie had her own vision for the home and wanted to take an active part in the selection. At the rug showroom, she examined individual pieces with the furniture and soft furnishings she had seen in mind.

Considering furniture, fabrics and rugs during the same trip gave her an opportunity to think about how the pieces might work together. We supported that process through on-site communication and selection assistance.

06 / CUSTOM DETAILS

Ask the next question.
Make the requirements clearer.

The final part of the visit covered bathroom products and Suzie’s interest in a steam room. She wanted to explore adjustments to its dimensions to suit the space in her home.

With translation support, the conversation with supplier representatives covered size changes and electrical configuration for use in Australia. Product specifications, applicable destination requirements and installation arrangements would still need to be checked before an order.

This trip brought furniture, finishes and custom questions into the same conversation. Arcaya’s role was to help Suzie explore the options, communicate her preferences and identify the details that needed further confirmation.
